Additional Parts (Needed to complete installation)
GMC Motorhome Assembly Instructions Parts (2) Rotors (2) Spacer plates (16) 2 - 13 x 2 grade 8 bolts(2) Caliper brackets (24) 3/8 flat washers (8) 3/8 lock washers Installation Instructions When installing Rear Disc Brakes you can completely finish one side before going to the other side. Remove the wheel, pinch off the rubber brake hose to keep the fluid in the lines. Remove the drum the normal way. Bolt the rotor and spacer plate to the hub with the 2 -13 bolts.Remove the cable from the backing plate (it is easiest to remove the spring on the cable first, pull with pliers until the whole spring is removed from the cable) then remove the cable from the backing plate. Remove the backing plate. Bolt the bracket to the axle using the lock washer and enough flat washers to keep the bolt from protruding through the bracket to the seal on the hub. The bracket has to be to the rear of the axle if you use parking brake calipers. Mount the caliper fairly high up on the front axle and to the rear on the rear axle. Install the new stainless brake lines on both axles. Install the caliper, connect the stainless hoses but don’t hook up the parking brake cable. To bleed the caliper take out the caliper mounting screws, tip the caliper up, take the cover off of the master cylinder, open a bleed screw and wait for gravity to fill the caliper with fluid. Move the caliper around some and tap with a hammer to dislodge air. When the fluid runs clear tighten the bleed screw and re install the caliper. Next tighten the parking brake arm and hold tight with a c clamp. Put the cover on the master cylinder press the pedal, it should be high and firm. Check for leaks in the hydraulic connections. If everything looks good install the cables, you might have to loosen the cable adjustment to connect the cable then re-adjust the tension on the cable. Set the parking brake several times re adjusting the cable as needed. Start the motor, try the pedal with the parking brake set and released. The pedal should be high and firm both ways. Reinstall the wheel, try it out, and do the other side. |
